Call me back, dick.

Thursday afternoon, I got a call from the manager of a gym in my area regarding a sales associate position.  Since then, I've been trying to get in touch with him pretty much every hour on the hour and he has yet to call me back.

A few years ago, I probably would have given up, taking his lack of a response as a sign that he doesn't actually want to interview me.  Now, I'm getting ready to call him for the fifth time today and I have no intention of stopping until I get an interview.

I think it's safe to say that the past few years have really skewed my perception of appropriate behavior with respect to finding a job.

  1. Ah yes, the American way of saying "no". Silence. Just don't tell a baby boomer your dilemma, if you call a prospect every day, he or she will insist that you physically stand outside the gym's door. You have to network and really, really, trulio show your interest. Because in their mushy minds, this is still the land of opportunity, just like it was when they were young. We would all be better served to just pick up pitch forks and head to NYC.
