I know I just did an updates post, but a couple of new things have happened over the past few days.
1) I have an interview tomorrow. It's at a foreclosure defense firm that looks kind of gimmicky and is really far away from my apartment. Still, I'd love to have this job.
2) I have a lot of new kung fu students. One of them is a med mal mediator or arbitrator or something like that. He isn't a lawyer himself, but he works with a lot of lawyers and offered to forward my resume around.
3) My dad was recently a witness in an administrative hearing. I went to watch the proceedings and talked to the lawyers for a bit. Nothing really came out of it, but I figure any exposure is good exposure.
4) I started my winter workout schedule. It involves more heavy lifting than my summer workouts. I'm trying Wendler's 5-3-1 program. I'll let you know how it goes.
5) I am officially applying to downstate jobs.
If nothing else, I think that I've gotten a lot better at networking. Through my various classes and activities I meet a lot of random people and they all have copies of my resume with instructions to distribute it at will. When I get to a point where I'm looking for clients, I think I'll be a business generating machine.
Good luck at the interview! And how cool is it that you can follow that news up with having a lot of new kung fu students? Very cool.
ReplyDeleteDo you compete in powerlifting?
ReplyDeleteNot at all. I'm just a bit of an exercise fanatic and I was reading about his program on T-Nation.
ReplyDeleteOver the summer I do a lot of conditioning work, but I switch over to more heavy lifting during the winter. I have an easier time getting motivated for different workouts when it's warm v. cold.
I assume you're familiar with it, but take a gander at www.leangains.com. I'm a big proponent of IF.
ReplyDeleteI've been doing just a basic 5x5 at the moment, but I think I need to switch up. I'll check out the 5-3-1. Heavy lifting is the only way to go!
Speaking of kung fu: I'm a huge fan of Sanda, which is effectivly muay thai (without elbows) combined with judo (without a gi). Every modern fighter must have some BJJ, but you don't want to street fight on the ground. Sanda biases the fight towards standing strikes amd throws.
ReplyDeleteRe: powerlifting.
Thanks for the site. I used to alternate between straight 5x5 and pyramids. When I was young in the early 90s, I was big but not very mean. We only had bullshit martial arts back then. (I did Wing Tsun, LOL). I admire the kids of the MMA generation.
