Facebook is freaking me out

Some days, it seems like the world is just fucking with me.  Logically, I know that's not possible, but it certainly feels that way sometimes.  For instance, I log on to Facebook the other day and who pops up as a suggested friend?  The asshole I used to work for.

We have no friends in common, I have no friends at his firm and I didn't even know this guy had a Facebook page.  So, I'm left wondering why Facebook decided to place him first under, "people you may know."  Was it just to fuck with me?  Kinda seems like it.

  1. Ever log into Facebook at work? They track the IP addresses.

See Eric Schmidt talking about what info Google has (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2010/10/04/businessinsider-eric-schmidt-we-know-where-you-are-we-know-where-youve-been-we-can-more-or-less-know-what-youre-thinking-about-2010-10.DTL). It's easy to extrapolate that Facebook is collecting the same types of info.

Also, the old adage, if you're not paying it, then you're not the consumer, you're the product.

  2. Facebook usually recommends people who were just trying to view your page FYI. He was probably snooping you out.

  3. It could also be that your email address is in his address book.
