Just had lunch with that attorney my French teacher introduced me to. She admitted she wasn't going to be very helpful, but she was quite nice. Regardless, I now know one more lawyer and, again, I believe that's how networking is supposed to work, right?
On a somewhat related note, how is it that every lunch I have with a random attorney lasts more than two hours? Is this something normal that I should be expecting? I mean, I'm a charming and personable guy (if you couldn't tell), quite capable of holding up my end of an interesting conversation, but over two hours for lunch? Isn't that a bit much?
I'm just glad my work doesn't keep close tabs on where I'm at. I left around noon for lunch with this lady and told people I'd be back in about an hour. Come 2:00, we're asking for the check and I'm actually a bit frantic about how long I've been gone. I know I'm pretty laid back about my job, but a two and a half hour lunch is pushing it even for me. Luckily, I'm pretty sure nobody even knew I was gone.
Most lawyers don't have any friends, so a lunch is their only chance at interacting with another human being in a non-asshole fashion. If they aren't assholes, they probably just don't have any money, so that sucks too. Also most non-lawyers already hate them for being lawyers.
ReplyDeleteI have frequently been told I'm the only lawyer a lot of people are willing to talk to. Too bad I'm poor.
