Old guy update II

I completely forgot to post an update on my meeting with the old guy.  I just got too distracted by my "head towards the lake" post.  It was a good one.

Anyway, he started out by basically telling me that, in both politics and law, it's not what you know, but who you know.  With that in mind, he pulled out a list of lawyers who were at his last medical conference and just started calling random people he knew.  Seriously.

So, I sat there for about half an hour listening to him ask people where I should go for a job, while briefly talking to him between calls.  It was interesting.

Long story short, he came up with a couple of good suggestions, though he said he can't be of too much more help until I know what job I specifically want.  Then, I guess, he'll try to pull some string for me.

He appears to have a lot of strings, so my hopes are high.  Well, as high as they get, nowadays.

  1. Never underestimate the power of old people. They've been around long enough to know a whole mess of people, and they tend not to be shy about it. Good luck!

  2. I think this might work for you. When somebody tried this for me, however, he was told there are no jobs and then one guy kept telling me to apply on the website for the major corporation he worked at, but it turned out I did not qualify for fuck anything in the corporate world.

I hope it works out better for you. Your old guy seems to be willing to actually pull the strings once you give him a job you want, rather than just editing your resume over and over.
