Updates

There's no good news, but I guess there's still news.

1) My temporary work ran out the other day, so I'm officially unemployed again.
2) Over the weekend, I mailed out 250 copies of my resume to various firms in Chicago.  We'll see how that goes.
3) One of my goals while unemployed is to visit someplace new every day.  My first stop is going to be the Newberry Library.  If anyone has suggestions of other interesting places to visit in Chicago, feel free to let me know.
4) A new round of French started and there are a lot of new people.  Maybe one of them will want to hire an unemployed attorney.
5) On my last day, Attorney 2 sat me down for another heart-to-heart about what I should do with my life.  My mom pretty much did the same thing yesterday.  I must still not hide it very well that I don't want to push paperwork around as a lawyer.  If anyone has ideas, I'm all ears.*

*Health insurance claims examiner has already been suggested and I'm looking into it.  Just so you don't think I ignore suggestions.

  1. Go to the Field Museum. Look into the eyes of the lions. Do not be afraid.

  2. Have you thought about taking the exam to get into the foreign service? You seem to like foreign languages, and it's definitely not a paper-pushing career. It's become increasingly competitive these days, but it's worth a shot. Also, there are other U.S. agencies that employ people abroad (like the U.S. Commercial Service) which are less competitive but don't follow a regular hiring schedule like the State Department.

These careers aren't for everyone, but it might be something to think about. What do you have to lose?

  3. LOL thanks for the shout out - but remember it's professional liability claims, not health insurance claims - you want to handle the med mal claims when physicians/hospitals are sued, not adjust health insurance claims! Good luck.

  4. i know you keep saying you want to do health law, but what aspect of that do you mean? Insurance, HIPPA, med mal, GC for a hospital? I think you would help yourself if you interned or shadowed some folks in these different fields. I suspect you'll be very disappointed once you see what really goes on behind the scenes. Good luck though!

  5. Yeah, I know I'll be disappointed if I follow someone around who does health law. Honestly, I'm more interested in the 'health' than the 'law' aspect of health law.

Right now, I'm seriously looking into doing sales for medical products. At least I'll be able to learn a little bit about the products, which actually sounds kind of interesting.

If I could turn back time, I'd definitely do something science related rather than majoring in philosophy.
