After yesterday's post, it's only fitting that Other Associate came into my office today to give me a huge pep-talk, the gist of which was, "please don't quit."
He told me I'm doing a great job and that, in the short time I've been working here, I've already picked up a lot and he can tell that I make a concerted effort to improve everything he points out that I need to work on. He reassured me that he really likes me and that our dick boss also likes me. Finally, and not unexpectedly, he told me that he's sick of people leaving after two months because it's hard on our dick boss, and particularly hard on him because he has to pick up the slack. So, he would really appreciate it if I stick around.
Anyway, just thought I'd share the fact that there's at least one person in my firm who doesn't think I'm a complete fuck-up. It was nice to hear.
Oh, if you're wondering why I've actually had time to post so much over the past couple of days, it's because my elbow is hurt and I haven't been able to work out. Not working out clears up quite a bit of time for me, but I'm starting to get a little cranky for lack of exercise.

Long day
Other Associate took the day off today, which just killed my day.
This is probably as good a time as any to mention that he's pretty much the only saving grace to this job. He, unlike my dick boss, is willing to help me out when I don't understand things, explains stuff pretty well and offers constructive criticism when I fuck things up. While I wouldn't describe him as "nice" or "friendly," he does seem to be genuinely concerned with helping me get the hang of things.
Though, it is very possible he's just sick of people in my position leaving after a couple of months. The guy seems pretty overwhelmed and I'm sure having to pick up the slack from having four different associated in the past year isn't helping.

Firm history
Today, I went to court with the other associate and got some firm history. Apparently, he has only been there since May, after being laid off from his previous firm. Also, I am the FOURTH associate they've been through in the past year.
Associate #1 had been with the firm for a long time, but had a falling out with my boss. Associate #2 stayed for a couple of months before leaving for undisclosed reasons. Associate #3 got fired for missing court appearances.
Now, I'm no expert in human resources, but I feel like that's an awful lot of associates to go through in less than one year. I feel like it adds credence to my belief that this is a somewhat difficult place to work.

First few days
It's been a strange week. So strange, that I'm actually blogging at home - like I've mentioned, it's oddly cathartic. Later this week, I'm going to give a day by day breakdown of what's gone down but, for now, suffice it to say that I have no idea what's going on at my new job.
For now, here's the cast of characters at my new job: Me, my boss, the other associate, office manager, paralegal, and the random lady who shows up a few days each week to do filing. We actually share the office space with a couple of other firms, but they're all pretty anti-social so I don't have much contact with them. Honestly, my new firm is also pretty anti-social, which has contributed to this being a strange week.
Bear with me, I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to call all of the new people. For some reason, I think "the random lady who shows up a few days each week to do filing" might be a little wordy.
More details to follow this weekend.
